The musical Annie is based on the American strip cartoon Little Orphan Annie, which began in August 1924, published in The New York News.
It tells the rags-to-riches tale of a young orphan named Annie and a hard-faced billionaire businessman, Oliver Warbucks. When his secretary, Grace Farrell, visits ‘The New York Municipal Orphanage for Girls’ and invites Annie to stay in their mansion for Christmas, life is changed forever for Mr Warbucks…
